Trump’s Dangerous Malignant Narcissistic Ignorance will kill Some and might kill Many

Market Watch reported, “Trump believes coronavirus will vanish with April temps — experts are skeptical warm weather alone is enough.” The evidence from the Southern Hemisphere says Trump is wrong as he often is with the conspiracy theories he hears from Rush Limbaugh or Fox’s Hannity.

If you listen to Trump, what do you have to lose?
The answer is your life, but if you are a gambler that always thinks the odds are in your favor, no matter how many times you have lost, go ahead.
Please, do it!

The meteorological seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere: Spring starts September 1 and ends November 30; Summer starts December 1 and ends February 28 (February 29 in a Leap Year); Fall (autumn) starts March 1 and ends May 31. The Southern Hemisphere’s Summer happens when the Earth is closest to the Sun, and their winter when the Earth is furthest. This makes their seasons even more severe.

Brazil’s 1st case of COVID-10 was on February 25 (in the Summer) and the first death on March 18 (in the Fall). By May 27, 25,598 Brazilians had died of the virus (and it was still Fall or Autumn). In February, the average temperature in Brazil is 95 degrees Fahrenheit with heavy humidity. In March, the average is 85 degrees with heavy humidity.

As May and Autumn come to an end and winter begins, in South America, deaths from COVID-19 totaled more than 35,000, and, I repeat, this was during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer.

Brazil’s president reacted like President Donald Trump and decided to ignore the virus and treat it like it was a hoax, that it would go away like magic. The BBC reported in April, “Coronavirus advice ignored by Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro. Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has come under criticism for his response to coronavirus, most recently for attending an anti-lockdown rally where he was seen coughing without covering his mouth.”

The Wall Street Journal recently reported in May, “U.S. Coronavirus Deaths Top 100,000 as South American Cases Surge.”  Is that surge because Fall is giving way to Winter?

Australia and New Zealand are also in the Southern Hemisphere and Australia’s first case of COVID-19 was reported on January 25. To date, Australia has reported 103 deaths. Australia, unlike Brazil and the United States, closed its borders on March 20 and also started to close all “non-essential” services like pubs and clubs.  The Conversation.com reported, “The effect of Australia’s strict border control measures, implemented relatively early in the pandemic, can clearly be seen in the graph below (click the link in this paragraph to see graph). Federal and state governments introduced strict social distancing rules; schools, pubs, churches, community centers, entertainment venues, and even some beaches were closed.”

New Zealand confirmed its first case on February 28. All borders and entry ports of New Zealand were closed to all non-residents at 11:59 pm on 19 March 2020, with returning citizens and residents being required to self-isolate. Since April 10, all New Zealanders returning from overseas must go into two weeks of supervised quarantine.  Politico reported, “How New Zealand beat the coronavirus by isolating itself from the world.” Only twenty-two deaths from the virus have been confirmed in New Zealand.

Who do you trust, Donald Trump or the scientific experts and the facts from the Southern Hemisphere?

  1. It’s unfortunate that those who need to acquire this information won’t read it, and it it is forced on them, wouldn’t believe it.

We’ve known since the beginning that the virus doesn’t magically disappear in the heat – but that myth is still out there, and believed by those who absolutely refuse to believe scientific consensus.

If they didn’t endanger the rest of us, I’d say let them find out the natural consequences of their behavior. But that isn’t the case, and it isn’t fair to just write off their children and elderly and sick, too – because we, the rest of us, have some humanity left.

I wonder if there was this much resistance to public health measures during the 1918 flu – aside from those cases where the authorities themselves decided there had been enough distancing, and allowed huge gatherings which were followed by a ten times larger wave of deaths. We should know better by now – it is infuriating to have this accumulated knowledge summarily dismissed.

    1. The CDC offers a lot of into on the1918 pandemic. This is one of the shorter ones. I don’t know which one it was that mentioned the resistance we are seeing now.

      History of 1918 Flu Pandemic

The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919. In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918.

It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States. Mortality was high in people younger than 5 years old, 20-40 years old, and 65 years and older. The high mortality in healthy people, including those in the 20-40 year age group, was a unique feature of this pandemic.

While the 1918 H1N1 virus has been synthesized and evaluated, the properties that made it so devastating are not well understood. With no vaccine to protect against influenza infection and no antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections that can be associated with influenza infections, control efforts worldwide were limited to non-pharmaceutical interventions such as isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly.

      1. Which is why we should be doing better: we have antibiotics, and modern hospitals.

It must have been psychologically devastating to have that happening alongside WWI. People must have been exhausted – and thought the world was ending.

      2. Some people have been thinking the world was ending every year since the Bible was published and more people starting reading it. There’s even a book about it.

A History of the End of the World: How the Most Controversial Book in the Bible Changed the Course of Western Civilization

“[The Book of] Revelation has served as a “language arsenal” in a great many of the social, cultural, and political conflicts in Western history. Again and again, Revelation has stirred some dangerous men and women to act out their own private apocalypses. Above all, the moral calculus of Revelation—the demonization of one’s enemies, the sanctification of revenge taking, and the notion that history must end in catastrophe—can be detected in some of the worst atrocities and excesses of every age, including our own. For all of these reasons, the rest of us ignore the book of Revelation only at our impoverishment and, more to the point, at our own peril.”

If Hillary Clinton was president, the U.S. would be way better off. Regardless of what some people think about her based on all of the GOP investigations that never found her guilty, and conspiracy theories based on all lies, she could reason and cared about people.

Trump is about as brain dead as one can be and still walk around breathing.

      3. I mourn the loss of Mrs. Clinton to our history.

How can it be godly and Christlike to demonize anyone, when those judgments should be reserved only for the deity?

That’s where all those people get it wrong: they take upon themselves attributes that belong – if you believe in God – ONLY to God. We are none of us allowed to judge others, except as relates to the laws we make – and should enforce uniformly – so that civilized people can live together.

The holier-than-thou attitude has caused more death and destruction than anything else.

      4. They do it because they are not godly or Christlike. The Bible warns about them. They are false prophets.

A few passages from the Bible:

        Matthew 24:24
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

        2 Corinthians 11:13-15
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

        2 Timothy 4:3
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

  2. Like (sorry I don’t have time to say more, but for the past week I’ve had so many problems with WordPress that it’s taking two or three times as long as to make comments, and even then, some of them are disappearing into cyberspace or spam or God knows where).

    1. It is possible that your computer or device doesn’t have enough RAM to load the WordPress blog pages. My desktop has 16GB of RAM and I seldom or never have problems loading a page.
