Donald Trump is a Real Threat to the Survival of the Human Species

Alan Singer at the Huffington Post writes about the Trump Team Revives McCarthyism in War on the Environment.  Singer writes, “Climate change deniers argue that the Earth’s climate sensitivity is so low that humans can use the atmosphere as a garbage dump pumping out carbon dioxide without worrying about global warming. Donald Trump has called climate change a ‘hoax’ and tweeted that ‘global warming’ is a plot by the Chinese ‘to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.’”

Here’s what I have a problem with. I can’t understand why almost everyone from both sides of the climate change issue only focuses on climate change and/or global warming, and ignores all of the other damage caused by the products of the fossil fuel industry: coal, oil, gasoline, diesel, etc.

Let’s take a break from flogging the ignorant, deplorable climate change deniers like Donald Trump, and his deplorable supporters and focus on the other dangers caused by the fossil fuel industry that can’t be denied.

Carbon emissions are also toxic to human health and lifespans.  Without efforts to clean the air, this threat to our health will only increase.

A study from Stanford linked carbon dioxide emissions to increased deaths.

Acid rain, caused by fossil fuel emissions, kills life in lakes, rivers, the oceans, damages top soil, and cuts crop yields, etc.

The Policy Almanac reports, “Acid rain causes acidification of lakes and streams and contributes to damage of trees at high elevations (for example, red spruce trees above 2,000 feet) and many sensitive forest soils. In addition, acid rain accelerates the decay of building materials and paints, including irreplaceable buildings, statues, and sculptures that are part of our nation’s cultural heritage. Prior to falling to the earth, SO2 and NOx gases and their particulate matter derivatives, sulfates and nitrates, contribute to visibility degradation and harm public health.”

Then there is Carbon Monoxide poising. If you are the fossil fuel industry, Kremlin candidate like Donald Trump is, and you deny this danger, then I want you to sleep in your car with the engine running in a closed garage. Plan your funeral before you try that out.

The gains we learn about from this video is in danger from Donald Trump, and his deplorable followers

The CDC teaches us all about the symptoms of CO poisoning.

The most common symptoms of CO poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. CO symptoms are often described as “flu-like.” If you breathe in a lot of CO it can make you pass out or kill you. People who are sleeping or drunk can die from CO poisoning before they have symptoms.

Who is at risk from CO poisoning?

Everyone is at risk for CO poisoning. Infants, the elderly, people with chronic heart disease, anemia, or breathing problems are more likely to get sick from CO. Each year, more than 400 Americans die from unintentional CO poisoning not linked to fires, more than 20,000 visit the emergency room, and more than 4,000 are hospitalized.

Then there is acidification of Earth’s oceans that are crucial to our health and survival as a species.

National Geographic teaches us that “For tens of millions of years, Earth’s oceans have maintained a relatively stable acidity level. It’s within this steady environment that the rich and varied web of life in today’s seas has arisen and flourished. But research shows that this ancient balance is being undone by a recent and rapid drop in surface pH that could have devastating global consequences.”

There is also another balancing act taking place inside of our bodies that’s even more sensitive and explains why the average lifespan in the United States has reversed.

Humans also have a pH balance just like the environment, and if the pH balances of the environment we live in changes, the pH balance inside our body is at risk. The results are rampant disease and significantly reduced lifespan.

If you don’t believe that our pH balance is important, explain why Living Near Freeways Hurts Kids’ lungs.

The Washington Post reports, “Children growing up alongside freeways risk having their lung development impaired, which can increase the likelihood of serious respiratory diseases later in life, researchers report.”

“Exposure from tailpipe emissions from motor vehicles potentially carries chronic health risks to children’s lung development,” said lead researcher W. James Gauderman, an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. “We found that kids who live closer to freeways had significantly less lung capacity, compared with kids who lived further from freeways.”

And Donald Trump’s administration wants to get rid of the Environmental Protection Agency that protects all of us, not just the balance of the Earth’s environment that we all need to survive. Climate change/global warming is one thing but what about the survival of the human species and life as we know it that’s being ignored?  I have no doubts that if only the earth was warming up, some humans would survive somewhere on the planet but no humans will survive if the delicate balance that supports our existence is destroyed.

I don’t think most if any rich people live near freeways and since so many of the wealthy are narcissists and psychopaths, they have no empathy for the suffering of children and families that live near freeways.

Why did the fossil fuel industry focus only on climate change and ignore all the other dangers that their products pose to life on Earth?

The evidence is overwhelming that climate change denial was a tactic to get our minds off of all the other dangers the fossil fuel industry’s products cause to our health, the quality of life, and our very existence.

U.S. life expectancy declines for the first time since 1993.

Who stops Donald Trump will go down in the history books as a global hero or heroes?

Thank you, but it isn’t just Traitor Trump. It is also the MAGA RINOs that still support the Traitor and theofascist Republicans (like Dangerously Deranged DeSantis, Abusive Abbott in Texas, and now Trumper Sarah Huckabee Sanders in Arkansas) waiting in the wings, with one foot on stage, working hard to win over the Traitor’s MAGA RINOs so they may continue to erode our freedoms protected by the U.S. Constitution.

I read somewhere (I wish I could find so I could quote), somebody’s theory that the far-right actually hired linguistic specialists – years ago – to help them coopt language to their own ends. (“Right to life” among some of the terms) No doubt “liberal” as well, but my memory is hazy — when I read it first, it seemed “merely” interesting.

At this point, clever wordage doesn’t seem like the way they choose to play today, in any case, based on election behavior. “Repeat lies often enough and loud enough and ‘the public’ will believe it is the truth and will follow you anywhere” seems to be the strategy.

Even the press fails to fact check and publicize corrections anymore.

Not all of the traditional media fact checks, but a few do. The sad thing is that the Alt-Right media hate machine has also turned on the fact-check sites that reveal their lies and has also labeled them part of the alleged “liberal” media that doesn’t really exist.

      For instance:

Fact Check.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

      http://www.factcheck.org/

Poltifact is a project of the Tampa Bay Times, a media newspaper.

      http://www.politifact.com/

The Washington Post, a major media newspaper, has a fact checker

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/

Open Secrets tracks money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy

      https://www.opensecrets.org/

The Sunlight Foundation is a nonprofit that lads the way for public accountability data journalism

      http://sunlightfoundation.com/

Snopes.com is the go-to destination for debunking strange internet rumors.

      http://www.snopes.com/

And when one candidate running for office alleges something about their competition, we have Vote Smart.com to check the actual voting records if one exists. For instance, during the presidential debates, Trump claimed in his 4th grade literacy level style taht Hillary Clinton had never accomplished anything in her public life. I turned to Vote Smart and checked her record as a Senator from New York State and within minutes discovered that Trump lied once again. I did this while the debate was still doing on.

I used Snopes to debunk most of the allegations made against the Clintons by the Alt-Right hate media machine.

Thanks for links to sites that seem trust-worthy re: facts.

Question: if YOU could debunk this reality star’s lies while the debate was going on, where was the popular media on this one? (my point re: fact checking)

It’s not libel to call someone out on blatant lies – and, IMHO, it’s cowardly (or blatantly biased), to fail to assign the “liar” label when that person lies repeatedly. (OBVIOUSLY, almost 50% of the American public couldn’t put 2+2 together without someone counting out the numbers – so why *didn’t* they put the math out there clearly?)

But it’s all too late now – I fear we’re doomed — forced to live with the choice of the antiquated Electoral College system, come hell or high water.

        God help us ALL.

I followed PBS on the debates. PBS was fact checking in real time as the debate was going on. In fact, they brought in extra people because of the challenge to fact-check all of the endless lies that Trump spews out.

Nate Silver’s site, that belongs to the New York Times, was doing the same thing but slower because I don’t think they had as many people to fact check during the debate. While I was listening/watching the debate on one screen (I have more than one screen for my desktop), on the other screen I was switching back and forth between PBS and Nate Silver’s site in addition to opening a third window to use a fact check site now and then.

I have no idea how many other media sources did what these two did because they are the two I picked early on to follow. I think they are more trustworthy, and I wasn’t disappointed.

We can’t do anything about voters that don’t do that but rely on one site, like Fox News or CNN, or one or more Alt-Net media hate sites to tell them what’s happening or how to think. Voters that do this are setting themselves up for being led around by the nose by a site owned by an unscrupulous CEO like Murdock who owns Fox News. But they do this because they have already made up their minds what they want to hear even if it is a lie but they don’t think it is a lie. They have fooled themselves to think everything they hear is all the truth when in reality it isn’t.

“And Donald Trump’s administration wants to get rid of” . . . ANYTHING that stands between the Billionaire Boys Club and the acquisition of more money than they can spend in two lifetimes, regardless of how it affects another soul on the planet. At least, if the past is any predictor of the future (and it usually IS).

NO safety nets allowed that might protect others or the planet we share.

My apologies if this comment appears “ad hominem” – but I find it difficult to separate who the incumbent IS from what he does. (Can’t say “what he believes” because it appears to me that he has no central guiding philosophy beyond personal interest expediency.)

No one else will have won when the “I told you so”-s begin rolling in. God help us ALL.

It’s not “ad hominem” when it is the truth backed by reliable science or fact-gathered data that hasn’t been cherry picked. No one would have to result to using “ad hominem” if the deplorables would listen to reason that’s based on that reliable data.

But it helps to know that the deplorables have been captured by the Alt-Right Hate Media Machine and have been well indoctrinated by years/decades of lies, misinformation, and cherry picked facts and most if not all of them are so far gone there isn’t anyway to bring them back. Their reality of the world is warped by the bias and hate they have learned from their choice of media.

If we don’t agree with them, they use “ad hominem” all the time when they accuse us of being “liberals”. The Alt-Right has spent decades turning “liberal” into an insult, into something bad. Therefore when a ditto head from the Alt-Right uses the term “liberal” it is an ad hominem, because of the context that goes with its use.

The frustration of dealing with these empty blockheads leads reasonable people to eventually turn to “ad hominem” to express their frustration too.
