That is why I’m writing this early in the morning on November 7, 2024. For going on eight years, the rise of Trump has troubled me.  I’ve read a lot of history through the decades, and I know what might be coming.

Donald Trump is like Hitler, Stalin, Putin and so many other human monsters. On January 20, 2025, if power is handed to Trump without resistance, then this poem shows us what is going to happen next. And eventually they will come for me, because unlike many, I have been speaking out.

FIRST THEY CAME FOR

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jews
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

I started speaking out in 2016, soon after Donald Trump came down that escalator announcing he was running for president of the United States. My voice, a virtual pen. They say the pen is mightier than the sword.  With that virtual pen, I have repeatedly called Trump a malignant narcissist, a psychopath, a sociopath, a lifelong cheat, a serial liar, a traitor (after January 6, 2021), and repeated the fact that he became a convicted rapist, fraud and felon, and more. 

I started speaking out soon after I found out who the real Donald Trump was.  The day he announced he was going to run for president in 2016, I started reading about Donald Trump’s history as a child, an adolescent, a student, about him as cadet bone spurs, a micromanager of his family and businesses, a cheating husband, his thousands of court cases, his history of racism, his lies, his scams, that he is a malignant narcissist and sociopath, that he loves and worships brutal dictators and wants to be one, that he has laundered money for the Russian mob, and so much more. Trump’s mentor was Roy Cohn. If you don’t know who Roy Cohn was, you should learn.

‘Roy Cohn, who has been described by people who knew him as “a snake,” “a scoundrel” and “a new strain of son of a bitch,” is the subject of a new documentary out this week from producer and director Matt Tyrnauer. It’s an occasion to once again look at Cohn and ask how much of him and his “savage,” “abrasive” and “amoral” behavior is visible in the behavior of the current president.;’ – Politico Magazine, April 08, 2016.

The Holocaust Encyclopedia says, “Hitler’s political opponents were the first victims of systematic Nazi persecution. They were incarcerated without trial …”

“Nazi persecution of political opponents exacted a terrible price in human suffering. Between 1933 and 1939, the criminal courts sentenced tens of thousands of Germans for “political crimes.” If the police were confident of a conviction in court, the prisoner was turned over to the justice system for trial. If the police were unsatisfied with the outcome of criminal proceedings, they would take the acquitted citizen or the citizen who was sentenced to a suspended sentence into protective detention and incarcerate him or her in a concentration camp. On the eve of World War II, concentration camps held about 25,000 inmates, most of them political prisoners.”

Donald Trump has vowed to go after pollical rivals if reelected. Trump promised to get revenge. NPR reports, “Trump has made more than 100 threats to persecute or punish perceived enemies.”

In one recent interview, Trump said that if “radical left lunatics” disrupt the election, “it should be very easily handled by — if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military.”

“That statement, on Fox News, was not the first time Trump has expressed support for using government force against domestic political rivals. Since 2022, when he began preparing for the presidential campaign, Trump has issued more than 100 threats to investigate, prosecute, imprison or otherwise punish his perceived opponents, NPR has found.”

Hitler’s “SS killed targeted groups of real or perceived enemies of Nazi Germany.”

Scientific American reports, “Trump’s language about immigrants poisoning the U.S. repeats past rhetoric that led to civilian detention camps, with horrific, tragic results.”

“The Republican National Convention hit rock bottom on its third day in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 17, with a sea of signs calling for “Mass Deportation Now.” If former president Donald Trump is elected for a second term, he and his advisers promise to remove from the U.S., via forced expulsions and deportation camps, as many as 20 million people—a number larger than the country’s current estimated population of undocumented residents. Put into effect, this scheme would devolve quickly into a vast 21st-century version of concentration camps, with predictably brutal results.”

That is why I know Donald Trump’s MAGA thugs [his SS – his Gestapo] will come for me one day.  Because I have spoken out and will keep speaking out until I’m dead or vanish into one of Donald Trump’s concentration camps, never to be seen or heard again.
